About the Office of Emergency Management
Welcome to the UC Santa Cruz Office of Emergency Management (OEM), your steadfast partner in safeguarding the well-being of our campus community. At the forefront of our commitment to your safety, the Office of Emergency Management is dedicated to comprehensive emergency preparedness, response coordination, and recovery planning.
We are entrusted with the responsibility of creating a resilient and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Our mission is to mitigate the impact of emergencies, foster a culture of preparedness, and ensure a coordinated, swift, and effective response to any crisis that may arise within the UC Santa Cruz community.
- Emergency Preparedness
- We empower individuals and departments through education, training, and resources to enhance their preparedness for various emergencies.
- Response Coordination
- In the face of an emergency, our office organizes the response effort. We work closely with campus departments, local agencies, and community partners to address the immediate needs of those affected.
- Recovery Planning
- Beyond the immediate response, we engage in robust recovery planning to expedite the restoration of normalcy. This involves collaborating with campus stakeholders to implement strategies that support recovery and resilience.
- Mass Notification Systems
- We manage and maintain mass notification systems to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of critical information during emergencies.
- Planning Materials
- We facilitate the creation and implementation of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) for various departments across the university.
- Community Engagement
- We actively involve the community in the process of emergency management, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and encouraging participation in volunteer opportunities.

The Office of Emergency Management is located in the Carriage House on the UCSC Residential Campus.
